Indian team batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of his proposed Lancashire stint for the Royal London Cup as he continues with his rehabilitation period for his shoulder injury.
Iyer was due to arrive in Manchester on July 15 and stay there for the month-long group stage. However, he had to be sidelined following discussions between the Club and the BCCI, as he recovers from a shoulder injury he sustained during the home series against England earlier this year. He had to undergo surgery for the same.
Shreyas Iyer said: “I am gutted to not be able to play for Lancashire this summer, a Club that has such history and ambition. I hope to play at Emirates Old Trafford for Lancashire at some point in the future.”
Shreyas Iyer sustained the injury to his left shoulder in the first ODI against England on March 23. It was just the next day after Lancashire signed him for the domestic One-Day Cup, which was supposed to be his debut season of the domestic competition.
Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said: “We are obviously very disappointed, as we were thoroughly looking forward to welcoming Shreyas to Emirates Old Trafford.
“Ultimately Shreyas’ long-term fitness is of paramount importance and Lancashire Cricket fully respects the decision.
“We wish Shreyas all the best with the remainder of his recovery, and from the conversations which I have had with the player, believe that this is an arrangement he would be keen to revisit again in the future.”
The Delhi Capitals skipper was also forced to miss the entire first leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Rishabh Pant took charge in his absence. However, has said he will play the remaining part of IPL 2021 in UAE in September.
