Indian opener Shubman Gill is set to be ruled out of the entire Test series against England, beginning on 4th August. This has come out as a major blow to the Indian Team ahead of an important Test series.
Gill has reportedly been carrying an undisclosed injury which aggravated with time. It is believed that Gill has either sustained a calf muscle injury or hamstring tear which could take considerable time to heal. It’s unclear at the moment whether Gill needs surgery before the England series, the report added. However. it is expected to take two to three months for his injury to recover.
Shubman Gill, however, won’t fly back to India and his progress will be monitored by physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Sohum Desai. Gill though showed no signs of discomfort during the World Test Championship final, which was played from June 18 to 23.
“There is a chance that Shubman could be ruled out of the whole Test tour even though it is still a month away. The injury is serious is what we have come to know,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
BCCI will add 2-3 players for the opening position of the batting order as a replacement for Gill. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is there as one of the four standbys could be added to the squad. It has also been reported that Prithvi Shaw could also replace Shubman Gill in the squad, given the kind of form he is in. In that case, Shaw will have to leave the upcoming Sri Lanka series and fly to England from the Island nation.
