SL vs PAK: Sri Lanka is hosting Pakistan for a two-match test series that is currently underway. Sri Lanka gained command over Pakistan at the end of day two after an exemplary all-round performance throughout the day.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a commendable first inning total of 378 on the board. Chasing the effort of the hosts, Pakistan’s batting order baffled as they are struggling on 191/7 at Stumps and trail by 187 runs.
Sri Lanka had put up a solid batting performance on Day 1 as they ended the day on 315/6. Wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and debutant Dunith Wellalange initiated the proceedings for the hosts at the start of Day 2.
Wellalange didn’t last long on the crease as he was dismissed for 11 whereas Dickwella completed his half-century and got out trapped to Rizwan off Naseem Shah. Tailender Ramesh Mendis made a noteworthy contribution of 35 runs as Sri Lanka was all out on 378.
For Pakistan, Naseem Shah (3/58) and Yasir Shah (3/83) were the key wicket takers whereas Mohammed Nawaz (2/80) and Nasir Ali (1/64) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Coming out to bat in their first innings, Pakistan lost a quick wicket in the form of Abdullah Shafique as he was dismissed for a duck. Captain Babar Azam (16) and Imam-ul-Haq (32) tried to build a partnership but failed in their efforts.
Except for a splendid knock by Agha Salman (62), no other middle-order batsman made an impact and stood strong at an end. Mohammed Rizwan (24), Fawad Alam (24) and Mohammed Nawaz (12) struggled with the bat.
For Sri Lanka, Ramesh Mendis starred the bowling attack as he registered a figure of 3/42. Prabhat Jayasuriya (2/59), Dhananjaya de Silva (1/15) and Asitha Fernando (1/49) were the other eminent wicket takers.
