Indian Premier League is known for giving a platform to young cricketers who have the skills & potential to get an International Exposure. One such rising sensation who has grabbed the limelight in the IPL due to his fiery pace is none other than Umran malik. The ongoing IPL 2022 has witnessed some outstanding performances but the young lad from Jammu & Kashmir who produces a pace upto 153 kmph has grabbed the attention of the entire Cricket fraternity including the BCCI President.
Umran Malik’s five-fer in SRH’s previous clash against Gujarat Titans has stunned BCCI’s President Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly heaped praise on Malik by calling him the “outstanding face of the league so far.” Ganguly applauded the young pacer for his historic five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans & his ability of bowling consistently above 150kmph.
“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching [the IPL]. Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – are doing well. Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khalil Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,” Ganguly said in an interview with News18.
In the ongoing IPL 2022, Umran Malik has ended with 15 wickets so far with his best five-wicket haul coming against Gujarat Titans. In their previous clash against Gujarat Titans, Umran returned with figures of 5-25 & was named as the ‘Player Of the Match’ despite SunRisers Hyderabad coming on the wrong end of the result.
Earlier speaking about his pace in an interview, Umran said, “Speed comes naturally to me. This year I am trying to work on hitting the right areas. I always used to bowl fast. I just want to make Jammu and Kashmir proud and I want to make the country proud. I just want to perform well.”
In SRH’s previous clash, none of their bowlers could actually scalp wickets except their star pacer Umran Malik. He completed his four-overs spell by returning with figures of 5-25. Umran dismantled GT’s top order reducing them to 140-6 in 16 overs in their chase of 195 runs. He almost took his team near the win but Rashid Khan’s unbeaten 31 off 11 balls along with Rahul Tewatia’s 40 off 21 balls snatched victory from SRH’s hands.
SRH will next horns with CSK in Match 46 of the IPL 2022 on May 1st at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune.
