Kuldeep Yadav made an explosive comeback in IPL 2022. The Chinaman bowler won four players of the match awards for his 21 wickets for the Delhi Capitals, earning him a recall to Team India. However, with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi ahead in the pecking order, the road to the T20 World Cup in October will only become more difficult.
Kuldeep Yadav faces stiff competition for the second spinner position in the T20 World Cup, according to selectors. His first major test will be a five-match T20 series against South Africa.
With the South Africa series coming up soon after the IPL, the selectors decided to rest some key players in preparation for the England tour. Kuldeep Yadav returned alongside Yuzvendra Chahal in a strong spin contingent that also included Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi.
But that is where Kuldeep Yadav’s difficult journey begins. Ravi Bishnoi made an impressive debut in the West Indies series, trouncing Kieron Pollard and others. Yuzvendra Chahal, the Purple Cap holder in IPL 2022, has already been established. Then there’s Rahul Chahar, who is waiting for his chance. Ravindra Jadeja is another obvious choice.
In the South Africa series many spinners are playing and it is unlikely that every one of them will get a chance. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi will be tough to compete with. But if Kuldeep gets any chance in the T20I series. He must perform as there are very less chances in such a tough competition. Also looking at T20 World Cup which will be held in October this year. Indian management would look to sort their squads and choose their spinners.
The return of Jadeja would mean only one spinner will play and there will be cutthroat competition between the three wrist spinners.
