South Africa vs Sri Lanka: On Thursday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the ODI and T20I squads for their tour of Sri Lanka that is set to commence on September 2 in Colombo.
Temba Bevuma will be captaining the Proteas squad on the white-ball cricket series. The ODI squad is a bit depleted as Quinton de Kock and David Miller have been rested for the ODIs. They are, however, set to return for the T20Is starting September 10. Miller is currently recuperating from a hamstring injury that he sustained during the Ireland series last month. Paceman Dwaine Pretorius has made his return into the squad after missing out on the West Indies and Ireland series.
The ODI squad will also be without the services of Lungi Ngidi, who earlier opted out of England’s The Hundred tournament, as he has pulled out of the series citing personal reasons. Junior Dala has been included in the ODI squad as cover for Ngidi. Dala last played an ODI for the Proteas in 2018. Ngidi will be available for the T20I series.
Furthermore, Janneman Malan, who has been named in the ODI cricket series squad, will be dropped from the T20Is after de Kock returns.
The matches will take place from September 2 – September 14. All matches will be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
