Sri Lanka vs Australia: Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 series of Australia. Mendis was found to be positive during a routine Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Monday (February 7).
His reports were confirmed by an RT-PCR test later in the day. Following this, Mendis has gone into isolation as per Covid-19 protocols.
“Mendis was found to be positive during a routine Rapid Antigen Test (RAT),” the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board said in a statement.
“Mendis is currently undergoing COVID-19 protocols and placed in isolation since Monday.”
Kusal Mendis was named in the 20-member squad last month after returning from a suspension imposed for breaching the team’s bio-bubble anti-coronavirus protocols during their T20I tour of England in July last year.
Sri Lanka is set to tour Australia for a five-match T20I series, which starts on Friday, February 11, at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sri Lanka’s national team left for Australia on February 3.
