Former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar completed 50 years of his Test debut on Saturday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India congratulated the Indian cricketer on the auspicious occasion. He was honoured by the BCCI secretary at Lunch on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test between India and England.
On the auspicious day, Sunil Gavaskar has also made his debut on Instagram. He uploaded his first post on the picture-sharing app on Saturday.
“Hello Instagram. I think I am ready for another debut,” He wrote as caption.
Rohan Gavaskar, too took to Twitter to announce his father’s debut on Instagram.
“Another debut! This time on Instagram,” he Tweeted.
Sunil Gavaskar is hailed as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game. He made his debut for India in the year 1971. He was part of India’ 1971 tour of the West Indies. On the same tour, India made history as they won their first-ever series against West Indies. Gavaskar notched as many as four centuries, including one doubleton.
Gavaskar holds the record for being the first cricketer to have scored 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He was a part of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad. The 71-year old scored 10, 122 runs in Test Cricket and held the record for notching the most number of centuries until Sachin Tendulkar surpassed him in 2005.
As far as the ODI numbers are concerned, Gavaskar scored 3092 runs in 108 matches.
