Former Indian batter Lalchand Rajput feels that Sunil Narine should take up the responsibility to take wickets in the middle overs. Sunil Narine who has been associated with Kolkata Knight Riders for a very long time is one of the core members of the team.
The off-spinner has played 140 matches and is an experienced campaigner. Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR ) has huge expectations from the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. Both were retained before the mega auction. But the duo has not clicked yet.
They have been very expensive and have looked clueless on Mumbai wickets. Especially Narine’s partner Varun has been targeted by teams that have put Sunil under pressure. Varun Chakravarthy has been able to pick only four wickets in six appearances so far. Whereas Narine too has only picked 4 wickets at an economy of just five.
“In the middle overs, Narine has to take responsibility; it’s difficult for one bowler to contain runs because he needs a partner, and Chakravarthy hasn’t been firing this season so that link is missing.
“The batsmen are after him and not letting him relax. In high-pressure situations, he has struggled with his lengths. They’ve been trounced by a large score in their last two games, and they’ll have to search for other ways to win the game,” Rajput remarked.
Rajput also made a statement on Venkatesh Iyer. Venkatesh has been struggling this season and now Rajput feels Venkatesh Iyer should bat in the middle-order, like the same role he has donned for the Indian team. Like he can come at five or six, and Sheldon Jackson can come at the top with Aaron Finch, and the role of finisher can be done well by Venkatesh Iyer.
