Surrey Cricket Club on Wednesday, March 9, announced the signing of star West Indies bowler Sunil Narine for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast season.
Narine will join the club for the entirety of the Vitality Blast competition after the completion of his assignment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
After signing Narine, the club is left with only one more slot for an overseas player.
The addition of the 33-year old mystery spinner, who has established himself as one of the fiercest bowlers on the international circuit, to the team will bolster the team’s spin attacks. Narine comes with a rich experience having appeared in 51 T20Is for West Indies, taking 52 wickets, and has 429 wickets in 391 T20 matches in total across his career.
Sunil Narine was one of the key elements of the 2012 T20 World Cup-winning team of West Indies. He clinched nine wickets in the competition while he was also a part of the 2014 T20 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
He has also aggregated impeccable records in domestic leagues. In the Indian Premier League, he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team both times the team lifted the title and was the recipient of the Player of the Tournament award in 2012. He continues to remain the MVP of the team He has also lifted the Caribbean Premier League thrice and the Bangladesh Premier League twice.
He has also built a stellar career in other prominent leagues globally, namely the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Abu Dhabi T10 League, and The Hundred tournament.
On signing for the Club, Narine said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play for Surrey in the Vitality Blast this year; one of the few competitions around the world I’ve not experienced in my career.
“The stint I enjoyed with Oval Invincibles in 2021 gave me a taste of how unique playing in front of a packed Kia Oval crowds really is. My aim is to entertain as much as possible this year and hopefully ensure the Club challenges for the trophy.”
