Sri Lanka is to take some really harsh measures against the trio of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Dinushka Gunathilake for breaching the bio-bubble on Sunday. According to recent reports, the suspended SL players are likely to face a lengthy ban after breaching the bio bubble in England. The trio has been called back home after the infringement. It has been understood that three players are likely to be suspended for a period ranging between three months and one year.
An official of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) told the CricWire that the players will suffer severe punishment for their actions. For now, they are likely to miss the upcoming white-ball series against India.
“It could be anywhere between 3 months to 1 year,” the SLC official claimed speaking on the punishment of the suspended SL players.
All three cricketers will be landing in Sri Lanka on Tuesday and undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine. The Sri Lanka Cricket doesn’t seem to be too pleased and is likely to come hard at the players. In fact, the Board has made the trio board the flight in economy class rather than business class. For the first time in 35 years, the Sri Lankan players have flown in economy class.
The sports minister of Sri Lanka too expressed disappointment over the matter. He has advised Sri Lankan Cricket to take strict actions against the trio. Sri Lankan cricketer has lately been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The senior players aren’t part of the ongoing series against England. England whitewashed Sri Lanka in the recently concluded T20 series, winning it 3-0.
With so many players not being part of the playing eleven, it remains to be seen how they fare in the ODI series.
