West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite is ready to don the magenta t-shirt again as the Big Bash League (BBL) club Sydney Sixers have resigned the player for the BBL 2021-22 season. The club confirmed the news on Monday (August 13).
The 33-year-old all-rounder has previously played a four-game cameo at the club in BBL|07 and two games in BBL|06. He then returned to the club only to claim the title for the club in BBL|10, their second straight title win. He played a brilliant game, picking up 16 wickets in 16 games that played a pivotal role in helping the men in magenta in their cause.
“Obviously winning and the team’s success last year made it attractive to want to come back,” Brathwaite said. “As you get older you definitely want to be somewhere you can hopefully be challenging for trophies but at the Sixers, there is a deeper camaraderie and sense of family atmosphere.”
Brathwaite is coming at the backdrop of the freshly concluded England’s The Hundred tournament. He will be now appearing in the campaign for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League before featuring in the BBL|11 later this year.
Carlos Brathwaite joins international players Lathan Lyon and Tom Curran on the Sixers’ roster. The club has retained nine players from the last season in the hope to complete a hat-trick of title wins. They are just left with only two players to confirm for a BBL|11 campaign, which is set to get underway against the Melbourne Stars at the SCG on December 5.
