The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the venue list of the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Title defenders Karnataka will lock horns with Jammu and Kashmir in the tournament opener on January 10.
The finals have finally got the green flag from the BCCI after a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. This will also be the first domestic tournament to begin in India, marking the return of competitive cricket in the country.
The Board has picked Bangalore, Kolkata, Vadodara, Indore and Mumbai as the venues for the five elite groups in the tournament. Only Chennai has been selected to host the plate group matches, while other groups will host the elite matches.
Newly built Saradar Vallabh Bhai Patel stadium famously known as Motera Stadium will host all the knockout matches including the finals on January 31. The double-header quarterfinals will be played on January 26 and 27 respectively with the semifinals on January 29.
The BCCI sent an email to all the state associations instructing them to reach their respective bases by January 2 and follow the quarantine protocols complying with the state regulatory authorities.
The teams and its staff will undergo at least three rounds of COVID-19 tests during their time at the team hotel before beginning with their training on January 8.
