England’s star all-rounder, Ben Stokes’s availability in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 for England remains a doubt. Stokes took an indefinite break from international cricket before the start of the five-match Test series against India to focus on his mental well-being.
Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for the second leg of IPL 2021, which is scheduled to start on 19th September. Ben Stokes played one game for Rajasthan Royals this season before suffering from a finger injury. His unavailability in the ongoing Test series against India made England look for other options. Stokes is also likely to miss the upcoming Ashes 2021 series, scheduled later this year.
The director of English cricket, Ashley Giles lavished praise on him for showing a lot of courage and opening up on his mental issues.
“Spending significant amounts of time away from family, with minimal freedoms, is extremely challenging. The cumulative effect of operating almost continuously in these environments over the last 16 months has had a major impact on everyone’s wellbeing. Ben will be given as long as he needs, and we look forward to seeing him playing cricket for England in the future,” Giles had said.
As per the sources, Stokes isn’t even thinking about cricket at the moment and isn’t likely to make a comeback ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. The International Cricket Council has put up a deadline for submitting the squads by September 10, 2021. England, thus have to decide whether to keep Ben Stokes in the squad or not. All the team are ought to submit a 15-man squad, including three reserve players. Having said that, the teams are allowed to make changes in the squad until October 10. There is a possibility that England could choose Ben Stokes in the squad and later leave him out if he doesn’t wish to play.
