England limited over’s skipper, Eoin Morgan believes that every top playing nation has a chance of winning the upcoming T20 World Cup. The English cricketer reckons that the standard of the tournament has been increased to a large extent and one can’t predict the favourite team for the tournament. He added that the upcoming World Cup is likely to be one of the closest competitions in the history of the game.
Eoin Morgan, with the release of the tournament’s dates, said in an International Cricket Council (ICC) statement:
“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is going to be brilliant. The standard of T20 cricket around the world is improving exponentially and every nation has a chance of becoming World champions. It should be one of the closest and most competitive world tournaments to date and we can’t wait to get started.”
The England Cricket Team is currently ranked number one in the T20I rankings. Eoin Morgan and Co. are some of the favourites to lift the trophy. Morgan believed that consistent performances over the years have helped England achieve heights in the shortest format of the game.
“I think our biggest strength is the consistency with which we have performed, probably over the last two years. It has taken us number 2 in the world. I think we have that momentum going nicely for us,” Morgan added.
The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is slated to begin with Oman taking on Papua New Guinea in the qualification round. After the conclusion of the qualification rounds, the Super12s will kick start. Australia will be facing South Africa in the first game of the T20 World Cup Super12s on 23rd October 2021.
