Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 17 October to 14 November.
The board has made three changes to the squad considering the form and performances of the player. Fakhar Zaman, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Haider Ali have been included in the squad.
Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali have been named as replacements of Azam Khan and Mohammad Hasnain, respectively. on the other hand, Fakhar Zaman, who was originally named as a travel reserve, has replaced Khushdil Shah.
The board will be making a decision on the inclusion of top-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood in the squad following medical advice. He underwent MRI scans for the lower back after the 6 October National T20 match against Northern. Resultantly, he had to miss out on Thursday’s Punjab Derby against Central Punjab.
Pakistan’s 15-member squad: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sohaib Maqsood.
Traveling reserves – Khushdil Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani and Usman Qadir.
PCB Chief selector Muhammad Wasim said: “After reviewing player performances in the highly competitive National T20 and in consultation with the team management, we have decided to include Haider Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Sarfaraz Ahmed in the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
“The three in-form players bring with them a wealth of experience and talent and provide further stability, balance and strength to the side.
“It must be tough for Azam, Khushdil and Hasnain for missing out but they still have a lot to offer in their careers. They are in our future plans as a lot of cricket has to be played post the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and in the lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.”
Pakistan is placed in Group 2 in the Super 12 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. They commence their campaign with the game against arch-rivals India on October 24.
