Sri Lanka will play against the Netherlands in the 12th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The two teams are sitting at the opposite ends of the points table. Sri Lanka has been nothing short of outstanding. In 2 games, they have managed to win two and are yet to lose a game in the tournament.
They are coming into the tournament on the back of a 70-run win over Ireland. Sri Lanka batted first but didn’t get off to a great start. They lost 3 wickets for just 8 runs inside the first two overs. However, a sensational fourth-wicket partnership between Wanindu Hasaranga and Pathum Nissanka turned the fortunes for Sri Lanka.
Pathum Nissanka went on to score 61 runs off 47 balls, while Hasaranga amassed 71 off 47 deliveries. Sri Lanka, as a result of those two knocks, went on to score 171 runs in the first innings.
Disciplined bowling from the Lankans shattered hopes for Ireland of chasing down the score. Ireland fell short of substantial contributions from their players as they got bundled out for just 101 runs. Once again, Maheesh Theekshana starred with the ball, picking 3 for 17 runs in 4 overs.
Facing them are the Netherlands, which are languishing at the bottom of the table. They have played 2 matches and went on to lose both of them. They are already knocked out of the tournament but would want to finish their campaign with a win on Friday. They played their last game against Namibia. Riding on a stellar 70-run knock from Max ODowd, the Netherlands posted a competitive 164-run total in the first innings.
The bowlers were disciplined in the first half of the second innings. They picked three wickets for 52 runs inside the first nine overs. However, a heroic knock of 66 runs off 40 balls from David Wiese took the game away from the Netherlands. Thanks to that knock, Namibia chased down the score in just 19 overs.
