Bangladesh One Day International skipper Tamim Iqbal fell ill during the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup on Sunday. The batsman complained of weakness during the match between Fortune Barishal and Beximco Dhaka on Saturday.
While he batted during Barishal’s inning, he didn’t step on to the field during Beximco Dhaka’s chase of 194 runs. Iqbal only managed to score 17 runs off 19 balls but his team went on to win the match by 2 runs.
Soon after the match, Iqbal took to his official Facebook account to inform he wasn’t feeling well and advised to stay in isolation by the medical team. The 31-year-old returned to the team hotel in Dhaka secured under the bio-secured bubble. He will now undergo a series of tests on the suggestion of the team’s medical team before being declared fit to play.
“I wasn’t feeling well since yesterday (Friday),” he posted.
“I felt even worse after I returned to the dressing room upon my dismissal. I was feeling very weak. BCB’s medical team advised me to immediately return to the team hotel, and a few overs after I was out, I left the stadium. I will undergo all the tests tomorrow. I am seeking everyone’s prayers. If I am feeling well, I will play the Eliminator match.” he added.
Iqbal is one of the leading scorers in the tournament with 302 runs at an impressive average of 43.14. His side will again face Beximco Dhaka in the eliminator round on Monday with him sidelined.
Bangabandhu T20 Cup has so far been a success with the matches being played behind closed doors at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
