TNPL 2021: The fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League will begin on July 16, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) confirmed on Wednesday. The tournament was earlier called off indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But TNCA held talks with the BCCI for this year’s tournament and also approached the state government for the same.
TNCA wrote a letter to the Tamil Nadu government seeking permission to go ahead with the tournament last month. In return, the state government issued a letter of approval to the board on July 2, as reported by Cricbuzz.
All the matches, including the league stage, playoffs, and finals will take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, TNCA secretary RS Ramasaamy confirmed.
“The Tamil Nadu government formally approved holding the TNPL 2021 tournament on July 1 subject to co spectators and strict COVID protocols. After discussions with all the stakeholders, it was decided to start the 2021 edition of TNPL from July 19 to August 15” Ramasaamy told the media.
Players of all 8 teams are currently in the hotel serving quarantine and practicing while following covid protocols. And BCCI had already confirmed sending their anti-corruption officials to monitor the entire tournament.
All 32 matches will be played among the eight teams in a format of seven doubleheaders in the league stage. And the matches will be broadcasted on Star Sports Network and Hotstar.
And the likes of experienced Ravi Ashwin, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sandeep Warrier won’t be available due to national commitments.
