Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has been appointed as the Director of Sri Lanka Cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday confirmed his appointment stating his role at SLC.
Moody will serve as the consultant and also fulfill the mandatory assignment of 300 days, added upon his contract of three years.
Sri Lanka Cricket also confirmed the news and released a statement that said:
Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Mr Tom Moody as the ‘Director of Cricket,’ effective from 01st March 2021. His appointment comes following recommendations made by the Technical Advisory Committee of the SLC to revamp Sri Lanka’s Cricket operations. Moody’s role will be on a consultancy basis, and he will have to fulfil 300 days of ‘Mandatory Assignment’ during his contracted 03-year period.
During his tenure, Moody will also oversee the Domestic cricketing activities, Future programs, Analysis. High Performance, Coaching and other important operations.
In fact, Moody has had a good camaraderie with the Sri Lanka team before as he led them to the finals of the 2007 World Cup while serving as their national coach.
‘’Tom has worked with Sri Lanka Cricket in the past and has shown results, and I am sure with his working knowledge of the system, Tom will add greater value to our game,’’ Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.
Moody comes in with vast experience such as his stint with the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and also served as the Director of Cricket of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Besides, he served the same designation for the county cricket team Worcestershire and also as the head coach of Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield tournament.
