Trinbago Knight Riders has signed up Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran. The six franchises announced their retention for CPL 2022. The CPL season 2022 will start on 30 August, but the board has yet to announce the player draft date. Trinbago has retained the current skipper of West Indies Kieron Pollard. Trinbago also retained the services of mystery bowler Sunil Narine, left-arm orthodox bowler Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, and Tion Webster.
The board decided to give 2 pre-draft windows for the season 2022. In the first window, each team was allowed to retain 5 players maximum with a maximum of 2 from the top five salary spots. In the second window, teams were allowed to sign 2 local players. The only players who were allowed to sign were the players who were not retained or players who have not represented that team in previous seasons.
Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan has bought Caribbean Premier League team Trinidad & Tobago, joining Hollywood biggies Mark Wahlberg and Gerard Butler. Khan, who co-owns two-time IPL champions KKR, invested in the CPL team along with Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta.
The Red Steel was purchased by Red Chillies Entertainment, the parent company of the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, in 2015. The 2015 competition was won by Red Steel. The name was changed to Trinbago Knight Riders after the season.
The runner-up team of CPL 2021 St. Lucia Kings retained Roston Chase, Kesrick Williams, Jeavor Royal, and Alzarri Joseph before signing Johnson Charles and Mark Dayal in 2nd signing.
Trinbago lost one of their prominent batters Darren Bravo as the reigning champions St Lucia kings signed the southpaw. Trinbago has a huge reputation attached to their name as they are the most successful team in the tournament and have won the title 4 times.
