American micro-blogging and social networking platform Twitter has removed former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s blue tick verified badge, deeming his account unofficial. As per reports, the social media platform took the step as Dhoni’s official handle has been inactive for a long time. The micro-blogging platform has not yet divulged the reason behind this step.
Dhoni has over 8.2 million followers on the micro-blogging platform. He last tweeted from his account on January 8, 2021. His tweets became fewer since 2018. Contrary to Twitter, Dhoni has been quite active on Instagram. He even shared the news of his retirement on Instagram and regularly posts on the social media platform.
Twitter’s decision did not go down well with Mahi’s fans. The news instantly took the internet by storm with Twitteratis demanding Twitter to revoke its decision.

The blue tick is used to indicate that the profile of the user is ‘verified’ as an official account. Twitter is entitled to remove the blue verified badge and verified status of an account at any time and without notice. The social media platform removed MS Dhoni’s account after seven months of inactivity, indicating it did so due to a prolonged inactive period. The development comes under the periodic revising of the verification process of the platform.
