UAE T20 League: The Glazer family has hired Tom Moody, a coach who is well-known throughout pretty much the entire world, to serve as team director for International T20 League. Interestingly, the UAE Twenty20 League has been moving quickly to appoint coaches and assemble teams since locking up a timeframe for its inaugural season.
Moody is the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL, and also part of set-ups in England, the West Indies and Sri Lanka. He will now have the task of putting together the team and coaches.
Capri Global has hired R Sridhar, a former India fielding coach. Sridhar, a businessman from Hyderabad, has joined the franchise owned by Rajesh Sharma, a businessman from Mumbai and Dubai. He will serve as its director of coaching, sharing Moody’s responsibilities. Sridhar announced that he would be joining the Capri’s club in the tournament, now known as the International League T20 or IL T20.
Adani Group approaches Andy Flower
The Adani Group is approaching Andy Flower, for the six-team competition. Like Moody, Flower is a Zimbabwean who has played in numerous T20 tournaments, including the IPL, PSL, and The Hundred, and is close to joining The Adani Group. Officials from Flower and Adani did not respond to a question. The other three owners, RIL’s Mumbai Indians, GMR’s Delhi Capitals, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders, each have their own cricket setups. They have also begun developing teams using their current staff.
Knight Riders had previously announced that they have purchased the Abu Dhabi team. The league is likely to soon announce the allotment of franchises to each investor. Sharjah has been assigned to the Capri team, and GMR’s base will be in Dubai.
Details about the other franchises will be declared soon. The league will reportedly introduce the idea of floating teams. Other than Knight Riders, GMR, and Capri, the other three may not have a fixed base but will share venues.
The league will also reveal the guidelines for signing players outside of the draft, something it intends to continue in the future. A total of four to five players may be signed by each team.
International T20 will have 32 games and take place from January 6 to February 12.
