After numerous delays, the UAE vs Ireland ODI finally got staged on Monday, with Ireland beating the hosts by a comprehensive margin of 112 runs.
Winning the toss, UAE opted to field first, but little did they know that the decision was about to back fire soon after. Coming to bat first, Ireland set up a target of 228 runs.
While they lost the top-order batsmen quite rapidly, with three batsmen scoring in a figure of a single digit, they soon got their act together to stitch a decent target. Curtis Campher played a knock of 56 runs, while Lorcan Tucker fell short of only 8 runs needed to complete his half century.
In came Simi Singh after Tucker was dismissed in the 29th over and built a strong partnership with Campher. Singh played an unbeaten knock of 54 runs in 57 balls, helping Ireland to set up a score of 228 runs at the loss of 6 wickets.
Outclassing the opponents, Singh emerged as the knight in the shining armour for the Ireland team. He smashed his first half-century as well as scalped his maiden five-wicket haul to lead his side to victory.
The off-spinner all-rounder’s five-wicket haul played a pivotal role in bundling UAE at 116 runs in just 36 overs. While the hosts did well with their bowling, their batting line-up fell like dominoes against the visitor’s bowling attacks.
Simi Singh was named the Player of the Match for his fantastic performances, both with the bat as well as the ball.
With today’s victory, Ireland leveled the series with UAE, resulting in the the four-match ODI series between the two teams to conclude in a 1-1 draw. Curtis Campher was adjudged as the Player of the Series.
Ireland is next scheduled to lock horns with Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series starting January 21 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
