Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Quetta Gladiators have announced that they have appointed Umar Gul as their new bowling coach. The PSL 2019 champions announced the news on Twitter.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of one of the best T20 bowlers of all-time @mdk_gul as bowling coach of #PurpleForce Can’t wait for the reunion #UmarGul. We also wish all the best to outgoing coach & legendary all-rounder @ARazzaqPak,” Team Quetta wrote.
Umar Gul, the champion Pakistani T20 bowler and World T20 winner, replaced all-rounder Abdur Razzaq as the bowling coach. Having previously represented the team in the first two seasons of the tournament, this marks his return in the Gladiators.
Gul has been an exceptional T20 bowler. In the recently announced ratings by the International Cricket Council (ICC), he received the highest ratings in the T20 format among all the bowlers.
The senior player has an experience of 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is. He has an impressive stats in these matches as he took 163 wickets in Test, 179 wickets in ODIs, and 85 wickets in T20Is.
Gladiators team owner Nadeem Omar expressed his delight over Gul’s appointment as the team’s bowling coach. He said, “Gul will bring in his wealth of experience and his appointment will prove very beneficial for the likes of speedsters Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah and Usman Shinwari. He ruled the T20 format for years so we couldn’t have asked for a better replacement and it’s like a family member returning to the team. I also want to thank Razzaq for his exceptional services over the years.“
