This was the first time in the ongoing Pakistan Super League edition that the team defending the target won the match. It was during the game between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators, where Afghanistan spinner weaved a magical spell and took three wickets in his spell.
Earlier, Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan had won the toss and decided to bat first, considering the winning outcome of batting second. That didn’t bother Quetta Gladiators as they rode on to a good start with openers Usman Khan and Saim Ayub adding 69 runs to the opening stand.
Usman continued to strike the ball and also maintained a healthy strike rate throughout the innings comprising of 10 boundaries and three sixes in his 81-run knock.
Due to his knock, Gladiators managed to put a total of 176/7 on the board after 20 overs. Shahnawaz Dhani was the most successful bowlers for Multan Sultans by taking 3/44, followed by Imran Tahir’s 2/29 in their spell.
Chasing the total of 177 runs, Multan skipper Mohammad Rizwan gave a solid start as he along with James Vince added 63 runs for the opening stand. Rizwan scored 66 runs off 50 balls and his inning was studded by seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.
Unfortunately, after his dismissal, other batsmen failed to cope up against the might of Afghanistan’s Qais Ahmed who took three crucial wickets of Vince (24 runs), Shan Masood (1) and Rilee Rossouw (3).
Zahid Mohammad and Mohammad Hasnain also joined the party by scalping a couple of wickets each on their names, eventually leading their side to a win by 22 runs in the end.
In this way, Quetta Gladiators also registered their first win of this season, that too came while defending the total that hadn’t happened until today.
