The Australian Cricket has been going through a rough patch. They have recently suffered their first-ever T20 series defeat against Bangladesh. The latter beat them 4-1 at their home. Australia has now lost their last five consecutive T20 series and this isn’t a good sign with the T20 World Cup coming into a couple of months. However, Australian cricketer, Usman Khawaja has come out in support of Justin Langer and criticized the players for leaking his intense style of coaching to the media.
Their performances in the ODIs as well as in Test Cricket haven’t been inspiring either. Amidst all, the head coach, Justin Langer has received a lot of wrath over his coaching style.
There have been reports of players not being happy with his intense style of management. Several media reported stated ugly aspects of his coaching style. Reports have also suggested that his relationships with the players haven’t been great and that is the reason why Australia’s performance has also suffered.
“I think the more important and disappointing thing is the players haven’t stood up and chatted to JL about this a long time ago. Things are still coming out in the media. How do you think JL feels? He probably feels like the guys in the team are stabbing him in the back. And that’s what it looks like,” added Khawaja on his YouTube channel.
“That’s why it’s so disappointing. It’s a really bad look and it’s something the group needs to sort out ASAP. It’s not always 100 per cent the coach’s fault. The guys aren’t performing, the players have to take ownership at some stage,” added Khawaja.
Usman Khawaja has been out of the Test side since his disappointing performances in Ashes 2019. He, however, is hopeful of making a comeback into the side.
