Following the loss against the table-toppers Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants coach Gautam Gambhir slammed the players in the locker room, stressing that although losing is OK, giving up is not. However, he also delivered a motivational speech to them going forward in the tournament.
Lucknow Super Giants were skittled out for a total of 82 against Gujarat Titans at the MCA Stadium in Pune, their lowest score of the season. The team led by KL Rahul eventually lost by 62 runs. The two-time IPL champion skipper claimed that LSG lacked game sense and that being weak has no place in a league like the IPL. The pitch wasn’t easy to bat on in Maharashtra Cricket Stadium.
However, GT was good with the bat to reach a competitive total of 144 on a tricky pitch. LSG lacked partnership in chasing the total only Deepak Hooda who made 27 runs looked like he wanted to build a partnership and the rest of the team fell like a deck of the cards.
“There is nothing wrong in losing. It is absolutely fine. One team has to win one team has to lose. But there is a lot wrong with giving up. Today I thought that we gave up and were weak,” Gambhir said in a video uploaded by LSG on their official Instagram handle.
“And honestly, there is no place for being weak in a tournament like the IPL or in sport. That is where the problem is. We have beaten sides in this competition but I felt today we lacked the game sense, which was more important,” he added.
GT became the first team to qualify for the playoffs with the victory. Following Shubman Gill’s 63 off 49 deliveries, GT posted a total of 144 for four after electing to bat. Avesh Khan had two for LSG, while Mohsin Khan and Jason Holder both had one.
