Former Mumbai player Rahul Mankad, the son of famed Vinoo Mankad, has died after a short illness. He was 66 years old. Mankad is survived by his wife and two daughters. The news of his death was confirmed on Facebook by former Mumbai player Shishir Hattangadi who wrote “Jigga Bhai, rest in peace my friend Rahul Mankad”. Mankad breathed his last in London.
A right-hander and a little orthodox left-handed thrower, Mankad played 47 first-class games in which he scored 2,111 runs, with the best of 162 runs. He has five hundred and fifty in his name.
His brothers – Ashok and Atul – were also cricket players. While Ashok represented India, Atul played home cricket. Mankad played from 1972-73 to 1984-85.
