Vitality T20 Blast 2022: Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will join Middlesex for the upcoming edition of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 tournament. The 20-year-old has been associated with the club since 2019, including helping them reach the quarter-finals once.
It will be Mujeeb’s fourth consecutive year stint with the London club and is expected to be available for the whole group stage, and the knockouts if the side excels in the tournament.
“I am very pleased to be returning to Middlesex, as the club is like family to me. I’m very happy there and hopefully, we can do well this season” he said.
Mujeeb had joined the club in 2019 when they qualified for the quarterfinals, and since then he has been a regular overseas player featuring for the side.
Besides, Mujeeb has shaped as a world-class bowler, having played in several tournaments across the globe. He has taken 185 wickets in 167 matches he has played in the T20 cricket, while 32 wickets in 22 T20I matches for Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Middlesex finished second to last in the 2021 Blast and parted ways with head coach Stuart Law after a challenging season across all formats. Since then, they’ve hired Alan Coleman as head of men’s performance and Richard Johnson, a former England seamer, as first-team coach.
Management heaps praise on Mujeeb:
“We are delighted once again to be able to extend Mujeeb’s association with Middlesex Cricket. Not only is he a truly world-class cricketer, but he is a fantastic role model and inspiration for many young people in London and around the world” Alan Coleman, Head of Men’s Performance Cricket said.
“As an individual he offers a huge amount in our changing room, having played T20 cricket successfully across the globe in the world’s largest competitions. The knowledge and experience he shares with our young players is invaluable and they absolutely love working with him” he added.
