Sri Lanka’s spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has revealed that he has been approached by two IPL teams, following his exploits against India in the recently concluded T20I series. The World’s number 2 T20 spinner made the revelations in a video posted on Lasith Malinga’s Youtube channel.
“Two IPL teams have approached me after the series against India. Getting a chance to play in the IPL is a big deal and it’s my dream to feature in the IPL one day,” said Wanindu Hasaranga.
With the second leg of IPL 2021 set to be played in UAE, the franchises would be looking to add Hasaranga in their bowling unit. The Sri Lanka spinner though hasn’t revealed the names of both the franchises. Some reports have suggested that RCB has shown interest in buying his services.
It was reported after the series that four IPL franchises were interested in roping in the bowler. The franchises likely included Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK might be seeking him as a possible replacement for Moeen Ali, who would be unavailable during the second leg of the tournament. On the other hand, RCB would want to fill up the place of Adam Zampa, who has withdrawn his name from the tournament.
Wanindu Hasaranga was exceptional in the limited over’s series against India. He picked 7 wickets in three T20 internationals and thereby adjudged as the Man of the Series award. The 24-year-old went through India’s batting line-up in the final T20 game, picking 4 for 9 runs in his quota of overs.
His bowling performance helped Sri Lanka win the T20 series against India for the very first time in their cricketing history. Besides, Hasaranga scored 29 runs with the bat in the T20 series at a strike rate of 130.
Wanindu Hasaranga has played 22 T20 internationals so far in his international cricket career. He has 33 wickets to his name at an economy of under 7.
