The third Test between India and England has started getting dramatic from the first day itself after Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was seen gesturing to the crowd teasing him. After registering a 151-run win at Lord’s against England, India was brought to the ground on the first day of the third Test.
England bundled India out for just 78 runs, with Rohit Sharma top-scoring for 19 off 105 balls. Anderson went through India’s top order, claiming the wickets of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli. India, at that stage, were reeling at 21 for 3 in 11 overs.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane held the fort for some time before Rahane went back to the pavilion after making 18 off 54. After that, England didn’t waste too long to bundle India out for their third-ever lowest total against England.
England openers, Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed then added further to India’s agony as the duo put an unbeaten-100 run stand for the opening wicket. At the end of the first day’s play, England were unbeaten 120 for 0 and comfortably took a lead of 42 runs.
During England innings, Mohammed Siraj received a mouthful from the English crowd while he was fielding in the deep. Mohammed Siraj responded to them by gesturing ‘1-0’, meaning India currently leads the series 1-0.
The viral clip has been doing the rounds on social media for quite some time now. The visitors have not filed an official complaint against the crowd, which was mocking him.
During the post-day press conference, India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant said that fans had thrown a ball towards Siraj.
“I think, somebody (from the crowd) threw a ball at Siraj, so he (Kohli) was upset,” Pant was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
India has found itself in a tough position after the end of the first day’s play. They will have to exhibit a special performance with the ball in the first session of the second day to get themselves back in the game.
