Women Big Bash League (WBBL) club Hobart Hurricanes have roped in Indian middle-order batter Richa Ghosh as their final member for the WBBL|07 squad as they complete their team. With the signing, the 18-year old is all set to make her WBBL debut.
An explosive middle-order batter, Ghosh made her international debut for India at last year’s Tri-National Women’s T20 series in the lead up to the ICC T20 World Cup, before going on to represent her country in the showpiece tournament itself, which saw the Indian cricket team end the event as runners up. Ghosh has represented India in 3 ODIs and 9 T20Is having an impressive strike rate of 100.
She is the third overseas signing for the club alongside New Zealand’s Rachel Priest and South Africa’s Mignon du Preez. She has a rich experience of playing on the Australian turf. Being part of India’s multi-format Australia tour, she made the ODI debut last month.
“I’m very excited to be playing in the WBBL this year,” Ghosh said.
“I’m very thankful to the Hurricanes for this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to coming to Tasmania and meeting up with my new teammates.”
Richa Ghosh has been named as the replacement for Lizelle Lee, who recently pulled out of the tournament as she has taken an indefinite break from the game citing bubble fatigue.
The 18-year-old joins Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma (Sydney Thunder), Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers), and Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur (Melbourne Renegades) as the seventh Indian to be signed for the 2021 edition of the Australian T20 league.
