The West Indies Cricket Board has announced the 13-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. West Indies cricketer Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the side, while Jermaine Blackwood will be the vice-captain of the squad.
West Indies are into the series on the back of two consecutive wins. However, they have not won a single match at home under the World Test Championship. The series would be a great opportunity for the Windies to end their WTC’S campaign on a brighter note.
Commenting on the squad, Lead Selector Roger Harper said, “It is good to be able to put together a Test squad with a number of players coming off very good performances in their last series in Bangladesh. Very encouraging. It is a fantastic opportunity to build on the good work that was done in Bangladesh. It is very important to continue the process of working hard, playing with great passion, playing with determination, and a great desire to succeed. Doing that consistently will bring us the right results.”
West Indies have only managed to play just one home Test series under the World Test Championship. The series will mark as the second home Test series for West Indies. The last time, West Indies played Tests at home, they were beaten 2-0 against India.
Currently, West Indies and Sri Lanka are sitting at sixth and eighth positions in the World Test Championship points table. The two-match Test series will begin on 21st March 2021. It remains to be seen how comes out on top in what is expected to be a mouth-watering Test series.
