The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has confirmed that India will be traveling to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. Ending all the speculations, the selection committee confirmed that the senior players will be on rest while a batch of youngsters will be the touring party. The Indian contingent will be led by Shikhar Dhawan and his deputy will be paceman Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
The relatively young generation squad will be gearing up with preparations for the tour after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With ace performance at the cash-rich league, six players including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Krishnappa Gowtham, Chetan Sakariya, and Varun Chakravarthy have been provided with the opportunity to represent the national side for their debut.
Meanwhile, the net bowlers who will travel along with the main squad are Ishan Porel, Sai Kishore, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, and Simarjeet Singh. While all other bowlers are relatively familiar and have been with the squad earlier, Simarjeet Singh is the latest addition to the list. Let’s know more about this young paceman.
Who is Simarjeet Singh?
Simarjeet Singh is a right-arm paceman who hails from Delhi. Simarjeet Singh is currently a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad and has played a few matches. Singh made his professional debut for the Delhi team in 2018. He made his debut against Saurashtra and sparked with his performance. In the latest edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Simarjeet grabbed 11 wickets at an economy of 5.65.
Simarjeet has played a total of 10 first-class, 19 List-A, and 15 T20 matches where he has chipped in 37, 19, and 18 wickets respectively. It will be interesting to find out whether Simarjeet Singh is provided with a chance to play or not.
India is touring Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is which is set to commence on 13 July.
