WI vs PAK 2021: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 13-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series of the Pakistan tour of West Indies. Kraigg Brathwaite will be captaining the squad while Jermaine Blackwood will be his deputy.
The squad sees the return of fast bowler Chemar Holder and middle-order batter Shamarh Brooks, both of whom have been named as travelling reserves. Holder replaces Shannon Gabriel, who has been left out to complete his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Test series is set to commence on August 12 at Sabina Park, while the second game will take place from August 20-24.
The series forms the first of six series in the new cycle of the International Cricket Council World Test Championship (2021-23).
“The Selection Panel chose a squad that provides both pace and spin bowling options. With Roston Chase included, variety was considered in the selection of Jomel Warrican. It is good to have Nkrumah Bonner back. The team does very well when our batsmen score centuries as we saw against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. So, I look forward to our batsmen scoring big,” Roger Harper, Lead Selector of the Senior Men’s Team said.
The hosts lost the four-match T20I series against Pakistan, which concluded on August 3 after rain played spoilsport. Pakistan emerged victorious in the second T20 international. The first and the last two games were washed out by rain. The last T20I was also marred by rain, which allowed only three overs to be bowled. Consequently, the West Indies team lost the series.
