Indian skipper Mithali Raj entered amongst the top-five positions in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Rankings for batsmen for the first time since October 2019. She top-scored for India in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against England in Bristol.
She scored a valiant 72-run knock to propel her side to a 201-run total in the first innings. However, the total didn’t prove enough as England chased it down quite easily and thereby lead the series 1-0. Nevertheless, Mithali’s knock helped her rise three spots to the fifth position in the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings. The 38-year-old, who has completed 22 years in international cricket, rescued her side from a precarious 27 for two.
Besides, Shafali Verma’s cameo of 14 runs for 15 balls helped her enter the ICC rankings at 120th place. All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has secured 97th place among the batsmen and 88th place in the bowling rankings.
England opener Tammy Beaumont leads the way with the bat, scoring 87 in the last game. Her knock helped her consolidate the top position in the rankings as she gained 26 rating points to claim 791 rating points. Natalie Sciver’s 75-run unbeaten knock helped her gain one spot to the eighth position in the rankings. Sciver stitched a partnership of 119 runs to take the team to a thumping eight-wicket victory.
In the bowlers’ list, fast bowler Anya Shrubsole has progressed three places to eighth after grabbing two wickets in the match while left-arm spinner, Sophie Ecclestone, top-ranked in T20Is, has gained four slots to reach 10th position with a haul of three for 40 that included the scalps of Mithali and Harmanpreet Kaur. Kate Cross has moved up three places to the 25th position.
The second ODI between India and England will be played on 30th June 2021 on Wednesday.
