Australia’s women’s team registered their second consecutive win in the ICC Women’s WC 2022 after beating Pakistan by 7 wickets on Tuesday. With that win, they have reached the top of the table with 4 points in 2 matches. Batting first, Pakistan were bundled out for just 190 runs in the first innings. Skipper Maroof played an unbeaten knock of 78 runs in 122 balls, a knock which was pepper with 12 fours. However, she received little support from the other end.
Wickets kept falling at the other end. Pakistan had lost four wickets for just 44 runs in 13 overs. However, Aliya Riaz then joined hands with Maroof and the duo led a great recovery. Riaz got out after scoring 53 off 109 balls. In the end, all Pakistan managed in 50 overs was 190 runs in the first innings. For Australia, it was a collective bowling effort. Alana King picked two wickets, while the likes of Schutt, E Perry, Wellington, and Carey picked one wicket each.
In pursuit of the total, Alyssa Healy set a strong foundation. Healy played a sensational knock of 72 runs in 79 balls, a knock which was peppered with 7 fours. The likes of Rachael Haynes (34), Lanning (35) also made valuable contributions.
Later, Ellyse Perry (26 off 33) and Beth Mooney (23 off 26) remained unbeaten to guide the team home in 34.4 overs. This is the second consecutive defeat for Pakistan. The Women in Green have now slipped to the bottom of the points table. They are yet to earn their first points in the tournament.
