After losing their last game against Australia, India came back to winning ways in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. They registered their third win of the tournament after beating Bangladesh by 110 runs on Tuesday at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Riding on valuable contributions from Smriti Mandhana (30 off 51), Shafali Verma (42 off 42), and Yastik Bhatia (50 off 80), India managed to score 229 runs in the first innings.
For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni was the pick of the bowlers. She claimed 3 wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. Besides, Nahida Akter and Jahanara Alam picked 2 and 1 wickets, respectively.
Bangladesh, in reply, were bundled out for 119 runs, thereby falling 110 runs short of the target. It was a collective bowling effort from India which helped them win their third game with a big margin. Bangladesh, at one stage, had lost five wickets for just 35 runs. But they lata Mondal and Salma Khatun then delayed in inevitable by stitching a 40-run partnership for the sixth over.
Lata Mondal (24 off 46) and Salma Khatun (32 off 35) made decent contributions with the bat but couldn’t go on to score big for the team. As for India, Jhulan Goswami (2 for 19) returned with an outstanding spell. Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers as she picked 4 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs. Besides, Pooja Vastrakar picked two wickets for 26 runs in 6 overs. Gayakwad and Yadav picked one wicket each.
With that win, India has moved to number three on the points table with 3 wins in 6 matches. They are very much in contention of reaching the semis.
