Wriddhiman Saha is no longer part of the Bengal team and, if reports are to be believed, he is in talks with the Tripura team to ply his trade as a player-cum-mentor role. For the unversed, Saha had a fallout with the Cricket Association of Bengal, following which he refused to play for the Bengal team in the Ranji Trophy matches.
“He wants a role of being the player-cum-mentor for Tripura. He has been in talks with some Apex Council members in Tripura but nothing has been finalized yet,” an official told the PTI agency. Saha was not available for comment.
“He has to first get a clearance (no-objection-certificate) from the CAB and then the BCCI and then it will be taken forward,” he added.
Wriddhiman Saha, recently, played for the Gujarat franchise in the Indian Premier League 2022. He opened the innings for the side and provided valuable starts for the team. In 11 matches, Saha managed to score 317 runs at an average of 31.7.
Wriddhiman Saha not for Test team contention
Wriddhiman Saha is no longer in India’s scheme of things in Test Cricket. The selectors are looking to groom KS Bharat with Rishabh Pant being the primary choice. In his Test Cricket career, Saha managed to score 1353 runs in 40 Tests at an average of 29.4. Besides, he played 144 matches in the Indian T20 League and scored 2427 runs at an average of 25.3.
Wriddhiman Saha has also played for India in 9 ODIs, scoring 41 runs at an average of 13.7. He is currently 37 years old and with age not on his side, there is a high possibility that he might not be retained by Gujarat in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
