Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan recently took to Twitter to share the weather condition during the Day 4 of the WTC Final at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton. Day 4 of the WTC final has been delayed due to persistent rain at the stadium. The chances of the match getting underway soon are looking rather bleak at the moment.
Prithvi uploaded a video on Twitter, in which heavy clouds cover is evident with covers applied on the ground. As per the weather forecast, persistent rain is expected throughout the day in Southampton, meaning the fourth day of the Test could get washed out completely.
Under such circumstances, the WTC final between India and New Zealand is likely to end in a draw. According to the ICC rules, if the Test ends in a draw or no result, the WTC trophy will be shared by both the finalists.
The first day of the WTC final was washed out completely due to rain. On Day2, 64.4 overs were bowled, while the third day saw a good game of cricket. India started day 3 at 146 for 3. However, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane couldn’t capitalize as the duo got out early inside the first session.
Kyle Jamieson, who took his fifth five-wicket haul in Test Cricket, was all over India. He picked the important wickets of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma as India got bundled out for just 217. In reply, Devon Conway and Tom Latham, gave New Zealand a brilliant start, sharing a 70-run opening stand. New Zealand ended the Day 3 at 101 for 2 in 49 overs. Ravi Ashwin and Ishant Sharma picked one wicket apiece, while the other bowlers went wicketless.
India first innings: 217 runs
New Zealand first innings (ongoing): 101/2 (49 ov)
Day 4 – Session 1: New Zealand trail by 116 runs.
