On Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India’s playing XI for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand. The summit clash between the two teams is all set to roll out on June 18 and will be played till June 22 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Pacer Mohammad Shami is back in the squad after recovering. The pacer had missed out on the previous Test series of India against Australia and England. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also made his comeback in the playing XI having missed the home Test against England.
India will also have the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin to take care of the spin attacks. The veteran player has been in phenomenal form in the previous Test series.
Ishant Sharma will spearhead the pace bowling attacks. Toe-breaker Jasprit Bumrah is also included in the playing XI, acting as a major boost for the team. With this, team India has well-stocked its bowling attacks with three seamers and two spinners.
India had earlier announced a 15-member squad for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship finals. The Indian team also boast of a star batting lineup comprising the likes of skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit Shrma, Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant.
Rahane being the deputy to Kohli, has already scored a century at England soil will have the idea of tackling the likes of Trent Boult and Tim Southee. The inclusion of Shubman Gill is also obvious, especially after his impressive display of batting in Australia. He averages 51.80 in the foreign soil, followed by Ravindra Jadeja (46.25) and Rahane (45.00).
Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant will further strengthen the batting unit as he in terrific form and even smashed over 100 runs in the intra-squad game.
