Zaheer Khan feels that India should give Ajinkya Rahane a break from Test Cricket to have him work on his technique and come back stronger. India’s vice-captain of the Test Cricket Team, Ajinkya Rahane isn’t in the best of form with the bat. He has had a string of low scores to his name. In the ongoing Test series between India and England, Rahane has just one half-century to his name.
“Would have been better if Rahane had got a break. There is a lot of pressure on him. And sometimes it is better that you take the player out of that pressure than to let him bear that. Let him work on the technique and get the clarity and then from there you can move forward,” Zaheer Khan said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.
In the ongoing fourth Test, Rahane got out on 14 off 47 after India were invited to bat first. Rahane’s wicket didn’t help India’s cause as they could only manage to score 191 runs in the first innings. Zaheer Khan feels that there is a problem with Rahane’s technique which hasn’t allowed him to flourish in England.
“One innings left. It has to be seen how much change he can make in this short time. I feel the story is more about the technique. Even the condition did not go in that much favour today as there were overcast conditions in The Oval and a bit of extra bounce was also there and thus he didn’t get much help,” Zaheer Khan added.
At the end of Day 1 at Stump’s, England had lost three wickets for 53 runs. Dawid Malan is currently at the crease with Craig Overton. Earlier, India had scored 191 runs in the first innings. Shardul Thakur top-scored with 57 runs off 36 balls.
