In a major blow to the Bangladesh cricket team, astonishing wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 after sustaining an injury to his finger. Hasan was a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s squad who is currently struggling on their tour to Zimbabwe.
Nurul Hasan was appointed as the captain of the three-match T-20 International series against Zimbabwe. He suffered an injury during the second T-20I of the series after which he was subsequently ruled out of the series. Unfortunately, Bangladesh lost the series by 1-2.
Nurul Hasan underwent surgery in Singapore and will probably take four weeks to recover. Hasan will travel to Dhaka tomorrow where he will be given adequate time to rest and will then join the recovery and rehabilitation program before finally getting back on the field.
According to the statement by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Physician Debashish Choudhary, a closed reduction and pinning procedure was conducted on Nurul’s injured left index finger by professional hand surgeon Dr Anthony Foo at the Raffles Hospital in Singapore on Monday.
He added by saying that the surgery was successful and Nurul’s finger is kept under observation. Hasan will likely move out of the hospital tomorrow.
Nurul’s injury will serve as a serious concern for the selectors ahead of the approaching Asia Cup. Owing to the injury concerns, the Asian Cricket Board (ACB) granted an extension to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to announce their squad.
Prominent cricketers of the Bangladesh side are leaping with serious injury concerns. Opening Liton Das is ailing from a hamstring injury, destructive paceman Mustafizur Rahman has sustained an ankle injury, wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim is out with a thumb concern whereas pacer Shoriful Islam recently suffered a knee injury. Notably, bowlers Yasir Ali and Mohammed Saifuddin will also have to clear the fitness tests in order to get scrutinized for the selection process.
Bangladesh will likely announce their squad for the Asia Cup 2022 by the end of this week.
