NZ vs IRE: New Zealand sealed the three-match ODI series 2-0 against Ireland after beating the hosts by 3 wickets in the second game on Tuesday at The Village, Dublin. Ireland batted first in that encounter and managed to score 216 runs in the first innings. The openers failed to hit the straps but Dockrell smashed 74 runs in 61 balls to help the team reach a decent total on the board.
For New Zealand, the likes of Matt Henry, M Bracewell, and Santner picked two wickets each. New Zealand, chased down the score in 38.1 overs and helped the team take a 2-0 lead.
The likes of Martin Guptill and Will Young got out without troubling the scorers but Finn Allen set the foundation with an outstanding knock of 60 runs in 58 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. He stitched a 101-run partnership to revive New Zealand’s innings and took them out of trouble.
Latham played a valuable knock of 55 runs in 73 balls, a knock which had 5 fours and 1 six. Michael Bracewell, on the other hand, played an unbeaten knock of 42 runs in 40 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals but Bracewell stood there unbeaten and carried the team home comfortably in the end.
For Ireland, Mark Adair and Simi Singh picked two wickets each but it didn’t prove enough. In the end, they lost the game and also the series.
The two teams will now lock horns with each other in the third and final ODI on Friday at The Village in Dublin. The ODI series will be followed by three-match T20I series, starting on 18th July 2022, Monday.
