New Zealand put up a mighty show against West Indies and handed them a 72-run loss in the second T20I game on Sunday. Glenn Phillips starred for the Kiwis with his well-orchestrated century that helped his side score a whopping 238 runs in 20 overs.

He along with Devon Conway (65 runs) stitched a partnership of 184 runs for the fourth wicket and ensured the hosts remained in command.

Smashing 108 runs off just 51 balls, Phillips lurched the WI bowlers all over the park for as many as 10 boundaries and 8 sixes.

Only WI skipper Kieron Pollard and Fabien Allen settled with a wicket each while others remained wicketless, instead got smacked relentlessly all over.

With a magnanimous total on the board, West Indies failed to put on a motivating start, especially after losing two wickets under the powerplay. The opening woes continued to haunt the visitors which the other batsmen failed to cover up for during the chase.

No batsman took the charge as the wickets continued to fall on regular intervals, taking away their chances of winning the game. NZ bowlers were as impressive on the other hand with every one of them taking at least one wicket.

Kyle Jamison and Mitchell Santner shared a couple of wickets each as the duo took down WI’s middle-order during their respective spell.

West Indies could only score 166/9 after 20 overs with skipper Kieron Pollard top-scoring with 28 runs off 18 balls. He later slammed his teammates for their unprofessional display during today’s match resulting in 72-run loss and series loss.

New Zealand took and unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and also wrapped the T20I series in Mount Maunganui with the help of the player of the match Glenn Phillips.
