ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Zimbabwe will host the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Rescheduling the qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup that is set to take place in India, ICC announced that the qualifiers will now be played from June 18 to July 9, 2023.

The World Cup host nation, India, and the top seven teams of the World Super League will qualify for the World Cup tournament. On the other hand, the bottom five teams will need to battle it out the World Cup qualifiers. They will join the three best teams of League 2.

Chris Tetley, ICC head of events, said, “When we rescheduled the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 to October and November 2023 it enabled us to extend the window for qualification events to take place and thereby ensure we maximize the opportunity for qualification to be decided on the field of play.

“We have worked very closely with Members and stakeholders to reschedule 96 ODIs and 60 List-A matches and will continue to maintain the safety of participants in our events as our highest priority,” he added.

The Cricket World Cup League 2 ODIs will roll out on March 19. Oman will host USA and Nepal in the sixth series of League 2. A total of six ODIs will be staged in the series.
