It was on this day (June 30), Rohit Sharma scored his third century in the 2019 World Cup on this day three years ago. The Midas touch of Rohit Sharma persisted even when facing the most formidable opposition i.e., England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Rohit kept going strong and registered his 25th ODI hundred and third of this World Cup.

Rohit made 102 runs off 109 balls while England was chasing a huge total of 338 runs, including 15 fours. Unfortunately, Team India lost by 31 runs and finished on the losing side.

Although Rohit Sharma originally appeared to be out of touch, he didn’t lose his wicket. Virat Kohli, the captain of India, and Rohit formed a significant 138-run partnership.

In addition, the batsman scored four more tonnes during the same competition, making him the first player to reach five centuries in a single World Cup.

Rohit not only tied Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most tonnes scored in a World Cup ODI, which had been held by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara but also smashed it.

With 648 runs under his belt and an average of 81.00 after just nine games, Rohit was the 2019 World Cup’s leading run-scorer. Against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, he scored hundreds.

Regarding the match against England, Jonny Bairstow set a big target of 338 runs, which India had to reach. Mohammed Shami, who claimed five wickets, was India’s preferred bowler.

Even though Rohit hit a tonne later in the second inning, the Men in Blue still lost by 31 runs. Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes each claimed three and two wickets for England.
