PAK vs ENG: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has displayed stiff resistance against the authorities and protested against the intensive security measures that are prevalent during the course of the historic test series against England. Azam stayed off the field for the first hour of the second day at the ongoing third test to portray his anguish against the security measures.
It is learnt that Babar Azam was restricted to go out for dinner along with his team members and their families. Babar had stepped out of the team hotel alongside his counterparts Azhar Ali, Shan Masood, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Imam-ul-Haq. However, they were stopped by the security personnel who were boarded at the front gate.
The security personnel questioned the players for prior clearance about their movements from the local authorities. All the players participating in the England vs Pakistan series have been granted President level security which is undisputedly the highest level of security in the country.
As a result, the incumbent skipper was largely unsatisfied with the level of security provided to the players. Azam also had a short rift with the security personnel who did not let him out of the hotel premises after which angry Azam rushed back to his hotel room and did not come out on the field to lead his team in the opening hour of the day’s play.
PCB is yet to react to the incident
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has remained silent on the issue and did not comment anything against their captain. An official statement from the board stated that Azam was suffering from an acute headache owing to which he could not take the field in the wee hours of Monday.
Pakistan has been always criticized for its security concerns and the paramount terrorism prevailing in the country. Due to this, England remained distant from playing in the country for 17 years. Although the players might have been frustrated due to the security level, it is true for the fine execution of the series.
