Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came up with an update on squad on Thursday ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming series against South Africa. Asif Ali has been called in as a replacement of Saud Shakeel for the three-match ODI series starting April 2.
“Uncapped middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel has been withdrawn from Pakistan’s ODI squad against South Africa after suffering a Grade-1 quadriceps tear in his left leg during Wednesday’s 50-over-a-side practice match in Lahore,” PCB said in a statement.
“The selection committee, in consultation with the team management, has replaced Saud with Asif Ali, who is already part of the T20I squad for the series in South Africa and Zimbabwe,” it added.
Saud was also named in Pakistan’s Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh. He will now remain at the National High Performance for the rehabilitation until he regains fitness.
If he regains his fitness he will be permitted to join the Pakistan squad and also travel to Harare on April 12. PCB had named a total of 34 members for the South Africa tour that comprised of 13 officials and 21 players.
The three-match ODI series will be a part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League starting April 2, followed by the four-match T20I series from April 10.
